At the age of 25, Emmanuel Ceysson is the first ever harpist to
have won three of the most important international competitions open to
his instrument, including recently being awarded First Prize at the
prestigious ARD International Music Competition, which took place in
Munich in September 2009. In 2006, he had already been honoured with one
First Prize and six Special Prizes at the Young Concert Artists (YCA)
International Auditions in New York. He won the Gold Medal at the 6th
USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Indiana in 2004, as
well as a Special Prize for the best interpretation of Debussy's "Danses
Sacrée et Profane".
After studying at the CNR national conservatory in Lyon (France), he was
admitted to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP),
where he studied with Isabelle Moretti. He graduated in 2005, receiving
a diploma with High Honours (DFS), as well as a First Prize in harmony.
In his current post of Principal Solo Harpist for the Paris Opera
Orchestra, he has the opportunity to develop a varied repertoire, in
association with musicians of the highest quality, under the direction
of the finest conductors, such as Georges Prêtre, Valery Gergiev and
Hartmut Haenchen.
Ceysson has also been pursuing an international career as a soloist
since 2005, with recitals and chamber music performances on the most
renowned stages, including the Wigmore Hall, Salle Gaveau, Carnegie
Hall, Kennedy Center and the Prinzregententheater. He has made concerto
appearances with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Radio
Orchestra and the Bogota Symphony Orchestra, with conductors such as
Lawrence Renes, John Fiore and David Cho. At Lincoln Center's Alice
Tully Hall, in April 2009, he interpreted Reinhold Glière's concerto Op.
74, accompanied by the Orchestra of St Luke’s and conducted by Giancarlo
Guerrero. Keen to be involved with his instrument's contemporary
repertory, he participated in the November 2008 concert series "The
Louvre invites Pierre Boulez", interpreting works by Saarahiao and
Takemitsu as part of a trio. Regularly invited to numerous festivals,
including Auvers-sur-Oise, Epau and Gargilesse (France) and Cartagena (Colombia),
he performs chamber music with quartets such as Parisii, Saint-Laurent
and Rodin, violonist Anne Akiko Meyers and flutists Philippe Bernold,
Paula Robison and Marya Martin. With a passion for French music, he
often tours, sharing the stage with his colleagues from the Opera:
Laurent Verney (viola), Fréderic Chatoux (flute) and Alexis Descharmes (cello).
After performing at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad (Switzerland), he was
asked to make a recording of concertos with Xavier de Maistre, Solo
Harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Released by Clavès in 2006, the disk
has been acclaimed by the specialised press. Designated "Artiste Déclic"
in that same year by the French creative arts agency AFAA (now
Culturesfrance), he was the subject of a documentary portrait, as well
as a series of five musical sequences, on Mezzo, the classical and jazz
music channel.
«Visiting Professor» at London's Royal Academy of Music, he has
regularly given Master Classes there for three years. With a desire to
transmit his passion for classical music and attract new listeners to it,
he participated in 2009 in the special "Dix mois d’école et d’opéra"
educational programme, where he encouraged young students to discover
his profession and his instrument. In addition, he volunteers his time
to provide two weeks of Master Classes annually in Colombia with the
support of the French Embassy and the Victor Salvi Foundation.
His latest disk, dedicated to the great names in opera and ballet, is
entitled "Insolite - l’opéra en duo". Recorded with Laurent Verney on
viola, it was released in October. In late 2009, he will interpret
Mozart's Concerto for flute and harp with Philippe Bernold and the
Auvergne Orchestra. In 2010, he will participate in the 10th annual
Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, and the 30th edition of the Auvers
International Festival of Music.

A 25 ans, Emmanuel Ceysson est le premier harpiste à avoir
remporté trois des plus grandes compétitions internationales ouvertes à
son instrument, dont dernièrement le Premier Prix du prestigieux
concours de l’ARD à Munich en Septembre 2009. Il avait déjà remporté en
2006 un Premier Prix et 6 Prix Spéciaux lors des auditions new-yorkaises
de Young Concert Artists (YCA) ainsi qu’en 2004 la Médaille d’Or du 6ème
Concours international de harpe à Bloomington (Indiana) avec un Prix
Spécial pour la meilleure interprétation des "Danses sacrée et profane"
de Debussy.
Après des études au CNR de Lyon, il entre au CNSM de Paris où il se
perfectionne dans la classe d’Isabelle Moretti. Il y obtient en 2005 son
DFS de harpe avec mention Très Bien ainsi qu’un Premier Prix d’harmonie.
Première Harpe Solo au sein de l’Opéra National de Paris depuis 2006, il
a la chance de s’enrichir d’un répertoire varié auprès de musiciens de
très grande qualité et de jouer sous la direction des plus grands chefs
tels que Georges Prêtre, Valery Gergiev ou Hartmut Haenchen.
Il poursuit par ailleurs une carrière internationale de soliste qu’il
débute dès 2005 en se produisant en récital et musique de chambre sur
les plus grandes scènes : Wigmore Hall, Salle
Gaveau, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Prinzregententheater… En
concerto, il joue avec l’Orchestre Symphonique de la Radio Bavaroise,
l’Orchestre de la Radio de Munich ou encore l’Orchestre Symphonique de
Bogota, sous la direction de chefs comme Lawrence Renes, John Fiore et
David Cho. Accompagné par «_the Orchestra of St Luke’s_» dirigé par
Giancarlo Guerrero, il interprète en avril 2009 le concerto op.74 de
Reinhold Glière au Alice Tully Hall du Lincoln Center de New-York. Ayant
à cœur de partager le répertoire contemporain de son instrument, il
participe en novembre 2008 à la saison «le Louvre invite Pierre Boulez »
où il interprète en trio des oeuvres de Saarahiao et Takemitsu. Invité
régulier de nombreux festivals tels que les festivals d’Auvers sur Oise,
de l’Epau, de Gargilesse ou encore de Carthagène (Colombie) il partage
des concerts de musique de chambre aux côtés des quatuors Parisii,
Psophos, Saint-Laurent et Rodin, des flutistes Philippe Bernold, Jean
Ferrandis ou Clément Dufour. Passionné par la musique française, il
partage souvent l’affiche de tournées avec ses collègues de l’Opéra :
Laurent Verney (alto), Fréderic Chatoux (flute) et Alexis Descharmes
(violoncelle).
Choisi en 2005 à l’issue des Sommets musicaux de Gstaad, il enregistre
avec Xavier de Maistre, harpiste solo du Wiener Philharmoniker, un
disque de concertos (Clavès, 2006) récompensé par la presse spécialisée.
Désigné la même année « artiste Déclic » par l’AFAA (aujourd’hui
Culturesfrance), la chaîne Mezzo réalise sur lui un portrait
documentaire ainsi qu’une série de 5 séquences musicales.
«Visiting Professor» à la Royal Academy of Music de Londres, il y donne
régulièrement des Masters Classes depuis 3 ans. Désireux de transmettre
sa passion et de faire venir un nouveau public à la musique classique,
il est en 2009 intervenant du programme «10 mois d’école et d’opéra», où
il s’attache à faire découvrir son métier et son instrument à un jeune
public défavorisé. Par ailleurs, il donne bénévolement 2 semaines de
«Master Class» par an en Colombie avec le soutien de l’Ambassade de
France et de la fondation Salvi.
Son dernier disque, dédié aux grandes figures de l’opéra et du ballet :
INSOLITE - L’OPÉRA EN DUO (enregistré avec l’altiste Laurent Verney),
est sorti courant octobre. Fin 2009, il
interprétera le Concerto pour flute et harpe de Mozart avec Philippe
Bernold et l’orchestre d’Auvergne, et participera en 2010 aux 10 ans des
Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, et aux 30 ans du festival d’Auvers.
