Born into a musician's family, Le zhang began learning
violinwith his father ?a violinist of
the Shanghoi Symphony Orchestra. Then he studied with Professor Jiyang Zhao and Professor
Shixiang Zhang in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. At age 13?Le Zhang won the first prize in the National Violin
Competition of China. When Dorothy Delay heard him play, she said," All the world
will hear your playing?you will be a
great violinist". Later?Le
Zhang went on to win the Violin Concerto Competition at the Aspen Music Festival?and immediately received a full scholarship from
the Juilliard School of Music to study with Dorothy delay. Le Zhang was a prizewinner in
the Queen Elizaboth International Competition in Belgium, the Menuhin Violin Competition
in England, and the Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poland. Before attending the
Juilliard, Le Zhang had studied for six years with Berl Senofsky at the Peabody Institute
of Music. In 1993?Le Zhang became
the first violinist from China to join the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
As a concertmaster, Le Zhong was often invited to different orchestras.
He had played Rimsky Korsakov's <Scheherazade> and Richard Strauss '<Ein
heldenleben> at the Grand Teton Music Festival. He has played with Norman Carol from
the Philadelphia Orchestra ?and Ruben
Gonzalaz from the Chicago Orchestra. Norman Carol said," Le Zhang can be a
concertmaster in any orchestra in the world. Le Zhang was invited to give master classes at the Juilliard Shanghai
Conservatory of Music. He has helped students to win many violin competitions in the
world. Over the years Le Zhang has appeared frequently in recital throughout North America?Europe?and Asia. He also appeared as a soloist with orchestra including Maryland State
Symphony, Denver Chamber Orchestra, Philladelphia Chamber Orchestra, and Kumamoto Symphony
0rchestra in Japan. Orchestra of the grand Teton Music Festival?and the Orchestra of the Aspen Music Festival.
In 2005, Zhang Le was nominated to be Concertmaster of Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. |
