Marie-Pierre Langlamet was born in Grenoble (France) in
1967, and received her first musical instruction at the Nice
Conservatoire. She studied harp with Elisabeth Fontan-Binoche, and
attended masterclasses with Lily Laskine and Jacqueline Borot. Already
in early years she was winning international competitions, such as the
2nd prize (top prize) of the Maria Korchinska competition in the Isle of
Man (UK) in 1983, the 1st prize of the Louise Charpentier Competition
(Paris) in 1984, and the 2nd prize (top prize) of the CIEM in Geneva in
1986.
At 17 years of age, she became the principal harpist of the Nice Opera
Orchestra. A scholarship enabled her to continue her studies at the
Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Soon afterwards, in 1988, she
was appointed assistant principal harpist of the Metropolitan Opera
Orchestra in New York (chief conductor James Levine), where she worked
for five years. During this time she continued pursuing her career as a
soloist and chamber musician. In 1989 she was a first prize winner of
NY's "Concert Artists Guild competition", and in 1992 won first prize at
the International Harp Competition in Israel, a competition that is
widely regarded as the most important for the instrument.
Since 1993 she is the principal harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic
Orchestra (chief conductor Claudio Abbado, and since 2002 Sir Simon
Rattle)
Marie-Pierre Langlamet is a 1994 Juventus Laureate, and in 2003, was the
recipient of the very prestigious "Cino del Duca" Prize from l’académie
des Beaux Arts.
In 2009 she was made "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres".
She has performed as soloist with numerous renowned orchestras,
including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, the
Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Lille national Orchestra, the swiss
radio orchestra of Lugano with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Sir
Simon Rattle, James Levine, Marek Janowski, Donald Runnicles, Hugh
Wolff, Horst Stein, Francois-Xavier Roth, Ilan Volkov …. with orchestras
such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, l'Orchestre de
la Suisse Romande, the RSB, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Barock
Solisten, the Radio Svizzera Lugano, l'Orchestre National de Lille,
l'ensemble orchestral de Paris... Her solo engagements have brought her
to perform in such halls as the Suntory Hall (Tokyo), the Concertgebouw
(Amsterdam), the Royal Albert Hall (London), the Avery Fisher Hall (New
York), the Grosses Festspielhaus (Salzburg), the Philharmonie (Berlin),
the KKL (Luzern)...and many others.
Marie-Pierre Langlamet teaches since 1995 at the Academy Herbert von
Karajan, and since 2010 at the Universität der Künste in Berlin.

Née en 1967, Marie-Pierre Langlamet effectue ses études musicales au
conservatoire de Nice, auprès d'Elizabeth Fontan-Binoche. Elle a tout
juste 17 ans quand elle obtient le poste de harpe solo à l’Orchestre de
Nice mais décide après un an de partir aux Etats-Unis pour approfondir
sa formation au Curtis Institute of Music de Philadelphie.
Elle remporte très tôt de nombreux prix internationaux :
en 1983, le 2ème prix (1ère lauréate) du concours Maria Korchinska
(Angleterre),
en 1984 le 1er prix du Concours Louise Charpentier de la Cité des Arts à
Paris,
en 1986, le 2ème Prix (première lauréate) du CIEM de Genève,
en 1989, le 1er prix du "Concert Artists Guild" de New-York,
en 1992, le 1er prix du Concours International de Harpe d'Israël.
Depuis 1993, Marie-Pierre Langlamet est harpe solo de l'Orchestre
Philharmonique de Berlin (direction : Simon Rattle), après avoir occupé
le même poste à l'Orchestre du Metropolitan Opera de New York de 1988 à
1993 (direction James Levine).
Parallèlement, Marie-Pierre Langlamet poursuit sa carrière de soliste et
de chambriste. Elle a joué notamment avec l'Orchestre Philharmonique de
Berlin, le Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin (RSO), le Philharmonique
d'Israël, l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, l’Orchestre de la Radio
Suisse, l’Orchestre National de Lille… Elle s’est produite en soliste
aux côtés de Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Marek Janowski, Donald
Runnicles, Hugh Wolf, François-Xavier Roth, Ilan Volkov, Horst Stein….
dans des salles aussi prestigieuses que la Philharmonie de Berlin, le
Suntory Hall de Tokyo, le Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, le Royal Albert
Hall de Londres, l’Avery Fisher Hall de New York, la Salle Pleyel à
Paris, le KKL à Lucerne…
En musique de chambre, elle joue avec Emmanuel Pahud, François Leleux,
Paul Meyer, Renaud et Gautier Capuçon, Tabea Zimmermann, Jean-Guihen
Queyras, Marc Coppey…
Marie-Pierre Langlamet est une lauréate Juventus (Conseil de l'Europe).
Le prix Cino del Duca de l’Académie des Beaux Arts lui a été décerné
pour l’année 2003, et elle est depuis 2009 Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts
et des Lettres.
Par ailleurs, elle a développé une relation privilégiée avec le
compositeur américain Sebastian Currier à qui elle a commandé plusieurs
œuvres, notamment un concerto pour harpe et orchestre « Traces » qu’elle
a créé en Décembre 2009 avec la Philharmonie de Berlin.
Marie-Pierre Langlamet enseigne dans le cadre de l’Académie Herbert von
Karajan depuis 1995, et depuis avril 2010 est également professeur à la
UdK (Universität der Künste) de Berlin.
